Water Sampling Demonstration

Friday, May 10 | 12:00 PM CDT

Please join Sierra Club’s Chicago Water Team for a hands-on water sampling experience along the South Branch of the Chicago River at Ping Tom Park. You will be participating in our ongoing community science program. Sierra Club’s goals for the program include: connecting us to our waterways, exposing and opposing activities that damage our waters, informing and educating the public, and influencing decision makers.

During the event, Sierra Club Water Team Members will share information about its sampling program, community science approaches, provide instruction on our testing equipment and then offer participants the opportunity to conduct tests. Results will be reviewed, discussed and documented. We’ll capture dissolved oxygen, temperature, phosphorus, conductivity, and pH readings and act as a set of eyes and ears ready to report abnormalities like excessive litter, pollution or suspicious chemical appearances.

The event will take place outdoors along the Chicago River’s shoreline. Please dress for the weather.
