Hosted by: Happy Boolo
An in-person tour of the rain gardens and rainwater harvesting system at the first LEED Platinum remodeled home in the Chicagoland suburbs!
The homeowners, Michael Baker and Amy Myers, will lead an engaging and informative tour of their landscape which involved replacing 2,100′ sq. of turf grass with 2,300+ native plants spanning 34 Illinois species of sedges and forbs. All are powering a sustainable stormwater management system that was carefully designed to effectively withstand even severe storms.
This is a one-of-a-kind experience for homeowners, sustainability advocates, or just the curious. We’ll answer the big-picture questions, the “what can I do at home?” questions, as well as more specific technical questions in an effort to explain why rainwater management innovation is so important in the suburban context.
Please dress for the weather. Rain or shine (rain might give you a chance to see how the impervious surfaces channel water into the rain gardens)!
Duration: 11:00am – 12:30pm
