Join Chicago Cares and Star Farm Chicago as we provide support with planting season preparation. Volunteers will help with weeding, planting, and cleaning up the garden. Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and should expect to be standing and walking during the project. Street parking is available in the surrounding area.
Since 2016, Star Farms has played a major role in said transformation facilitating vocational training, horticultural therapy, and community events for over 5,000 adults and youth with disabilities, young mothers, and neighbors. By enabling the development of local food systems, Star Farm has gone on to produce an inclusive, safe haven for women and children; create an urban green space widely accessible to the public; as well as serve as a training center for vocational skills. Further development of our current projects will continue organizational goals to help transform the Back of the Yards neighborhood, a plan done both by and for the community. By creating a stable source of food from within the neighborhood, local residents will be significantly aided in the development of their own future, and that of the city’s, the successes of which will further positively cascade.
