Nearly three-quarters of the Earth is water, but just 3% of that is freshwater. Of those 3%, only 1% is accessible to nearly seven billion people. With the growing frequency of floods, droughts, rising temperatures, wildfires, failures of aging infrastructure and other extreme climate events, competition for water resources is increasing. According to the UN, by 2050, 70% of the population is expected to be living in urban areas. Development of innovative solutions to address water safety and scarcity, monitoring and treatment of water, and data and analytics, in addition to water efficiency and utility operations, is essential to increase resiliency and sustainability of water resources.
Join the Discovery Partners Institute (DPI), University of Illinois System for a VIRTUAL discussion about innovations in water that DPI has been leading, from geospatial and computational methodologies, data translation in wastewater surveillance, and innovation in hydrological and climate models.
